A polymeric sheet (11) comprising a first layer of polymeric material having first (12) and second (13) parrallel surfaces, a plurality of mul- tilayer interference thin film flakes (16) disposed in the first layer of polymeric material, said flakes having first (17) and second (18) parallel surfaces and a width and a thickness and having an aspect ratio of at least 2;1 for the width with respect to the thickness, said flakes being oriented so that the flakes lie in planes with the first and second parallel surfaces of the flakes being substantially parallel to the first and second parallel surfaces of the first layer of polymeric material.
