The present invention provides an expansion subsystem for dense wavelength division multiplexing systems allowing for the time division multiplexed transmission of lower speed information-bearing signals without regard to data rate or transmission format. The subsystem includes a transmitting station having data buffers, encoders for encoding a unique identification code from a channel identification generator, data scramblers, a multiplexing clock and a time division multiplexing unit, and a receiving station generally the mirror image of the transmitting station.

La présente invention concerne un sous-système d'extension de systèmes de multiplexage en longueurs d'ondes multiples, lequel permet l'émission multiplexée dans le temps de signaux de faible vitesse, porteurs d'informations, et ne tient pas compte du débit des données ou du format d'émission. Ce sous-système comprend une station émettrice présentant des tampons de données, des codeurs destinés à coder un code d'identification unique, à partir d'un générateur d'identification de canaux, des brouilleurs de données, une horloge de multiplexage et une unité de multiplexage temporel, ainsi qu'une station réceptrice, généralement symétrique de la station émettrice.
