The present invention includes a composition comprising a coupled impact propylene copolymer. Preferably, the coupled impact propylene copolymer has an elastomeric phase that is present in an amount of at least 9 weight percent of the coupled propylene copolymer. Articles formed from the coupled propylene copolymer exhibit improved directionally balanced impact properties as compared with articles formed form comparable noncoupled impact propylene copolymers and also exhibit improved ducfile-to-brittle transition temperatures compared with comparable noncoupled impact propylene copolymers. The invention also includes methods for making the coupled impact propylene copolymers using coupling agents, preferably, poly(sulfonyl azides). The invention further includes articles of manufacture that are made from the coupled impact propylene copolymer of the invention.

La présente invention concerne une composition renfermant un copolymère de propylène couplé d'impact. Ce copolymère de propylène couplé possède de préférence une phase élastomère équivalent à au moins 9 % en poids du copolymère de propylène couplé d'impact. Les articles réalisés à partir dudit copolymère de propylène possèdent des propriétés anti-chocs directionnellement équilibrées supérieures à celles d'articles réalisés dans des copolymères de propylène d'impact non couplés comparables. De plus, ils se caractérisent par des températures de transition ductilité-fragilité plus favorables que celles d'articles en copolymère de propylène d'impact non couplés. L'invention concerne également des procédés de fabrication de copolymères de propylène couplés d'impact qui font intervenir des agents de pontage, de préférence des poly(sulfonyl azides). Cette invention porte par ailleurs sur des articles obtenus à partir de copolymère de propylène d'impact couplés.
