A security document, banknote, bond, travellers cheque, passport or token, including a substrate (1), said substrate having a device including a first macro-embossing (2, 3) of the substrate having a predetermined feature, and a second micro-embossing of smaller dimensions formed in or on said predetermined feature of said embossing. The first embossing being formed to hide and reveal said second embossing at predetermined viewing angles .alpha., .beta.. The macro-embossing may comprise lines having a height of about 20 microns and a spacing of 80 microns, and the micro-embossing in the form of lines or dots (4) to a height of about 2 to 5 microns. The lines have a predetermined height (H) and a predetermined spacing (S) such that the ratio S:H is typically from about 6:1 to 2:1. A transparent portion or clear window (W) of a polymer substrate (1) can be provided with embossing such that the first embossing is able to hide and reveal the finer second embossing at various viewing angles by using the gloss and transmission properties of the transparent substrate rather than the traditional reflection and absorption properties of the printed media.
L'invention concerne un document de sécurité, un billet de banque, une obligation, un chèque de voyage, un passeport ou un bon, comportant un support (1) qui comprend un dispositif présentant une première macro-gaufrure (2, 3) dotée d'une caractéristique préétablie, et une seconde micro-gaufrure de dimensions inférieures, formée dans ou sur ladite caractéristique préétablie de ladite première gaufrure. La première gaufrure est formée pour dissimuler ou pour révéler ladite seconde gaufrure suivant des angles d'observation préétablis .alpha.,.beta.. La macro-gaufrure peut comporter des lignes d'une épaisseur d'environ 20 microns, écartées de 80 microns, et la micro-gaufrure peut se présenter sous forme de lignes ou de points (4)d'une épaisseur pouvant atteindre 2 à 5 microns environ. Ces lignes possèdent une épaisseur préétablie (H) et un écartement préétabli (S) de sorte que le rapport S:H est généralement compris entre 6:1 et 2:1 environ. Une partie transparente ou fenêtre incolore (W) composée d'un substrat polymère (1) peut être dotée d'une gaufrure qui est telle que la première gaufrure est susceptible de dissimuler ou de révéler la seconde gaufrure plus fine, sous différents angles d'observation, grâce aux propriétés d'émission et de brillance du substrat transparent plutôt que grâce aux propriétés d'absorption et de réflexion classiques du support imprimé.
