A process for producing a chlorinated organic compound is provided wherein glycerol obtained from renewable raw materials is used as a starting product, wherein said glycerol is brought into contact with at least one chlorinating agent and wherein the chlorinated organic compound is produced in a reactor made of materials that are resistant, under the conditions of reaction, to the chlorinating agent and are selected from enamelled steel, polymers, coatings by means of resins, metals or alloys, ceramics and metalloceramics and refractory materials.
