Aqueous pigment dispersions include alcohol alkoxylates of the formula (I): [CH3.(CH2)n][CH3.(CH2)m].CH.[(CH2)p.O.(AO)q.H] where n and m are each independently from 1 to 13; and p is 1 or 2; such that n+m+p is from 5 to 19, particularly from 7 to 17; AO is an alkylene oxide residue having from 2 to 4 carbon atoms and is particularly an ethylene oxide residue, a propylene oxide residue or a mixture of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide residues; and q is from 5 to 40; as dispersants. Desirably the total dispersant used includes at least 40 % by weight of compound of the formula (I). The pigment dispersions can include a wide variety of inorganic, organic pigments or carbon black and can be used in paints.
L'invention concerne des dispersions aqueuses de pigments comprenant des alcoxylates d'alcool représentés par la formule (I): [CH¿3?.(CH¿2?)¿n?][CH¿3?.(CH¿2?)¿m?].CH.[(CH¿2?)¿p?.O.(AO)¿q?.H] dans laquelle n et m sont chacun indépendamment l'un de l'autre un nombre de 1 à 13, et p est 1 ou 2, n+m+p devant être compris entre 5 et 19, et plus particulièrement entre 7 et 17; AO est un résidu d'oxyde d'alcylène comprenant de 2 à 4 atomes de carbone et est plus particulièrement un résidu d'oxyde d'éthylène, un résidu d'oxyde de propylène ou un mélange de résidus d'oxyde d'éthylène et d'oxyde de propylène; et q est un nombre de 5 à 40. Ces composés sont utilisés comme dispersants. Il est souhaitable que le dispersant total comprenne au moins 40 % en poids du composé représenté par la formule (I). Les dispersions de pigments peuvent comprendre une grande variété de pigment organiques, inorganiques ou noir de carbone et peuvent être utilisés dans des peintures.
