2075952 9112473 PCTABS00006 An apparatus for storing, refrigerating and heating food items in serving containers includes a rethermalization cart (12) having a plurality of shelves (44a, 44b). Each of the shelves (44a, 44b) support one of a plurality of food trays (16) thereon. Each tray (16) has a plurality of food compartments (52a, b, c, d, and e) and openings for supporting one of the serving containers (56a, b, c). Each (54a, b, c) serving container (56a, b, c) containing food to be heated includes a cover (58a, b, c). Each shelf of the cart has at least three heating pads (64a, b, c) conforming to the openings of the tray (16) when the tray (16) is inserted in the shelf (44a, 44b). The cart (12) also includes a plurality of individual switches (110, 112, 114) each controlling all of the heater pads (64a, b, c) of each tray shelf (44a, b) as a set. Each switch (110, 112, 114) is provided within a channel (136) recessed from the exterior surface of the cart (12). The cart may also include a hinged work station (120) attached to the exterior surface (38b).
