A method of coating a substrate with a high temperature ceramic comprises delivering vaporised methyl acetylene propadiene (MPS) to a mixing chamber of an oxy-fuel spray gun where it is mixed with oxygen. Subsequently the gas mixture is introduced into a combustion chamber of the spray gas together with a powdered high temperature ceramic entrained in a stream of inert gas. The heated particles of the ceramic are then sprayed on to the surface of the substrate.
