The invention relates to the use of compounds of formula (I) or the salts (pyridine-2-oxy-3-carbonamides) thereof, wherein R1 represents a (C1-C4)haloalkyl group, as safeners, i.e. as agents for avoiding or reducing phytotoxic effects of pesticides, preferably herbicides, on useful plants.
