A process for preparing trimethylydroquinone diacetate and subsequent hydrolysis to give trimethylhydroquinone by reacting 2,2,6- trimethylcyclohexane-1,4-dione under oxidative conditions in the presence of a sulfonating agent and a strong acid in the presence of an acylating agent.

L'invention concerne un procédé pour la préparation de diacétate de triméthylhydroquinone et l'hydrolyse consécutive permettant d'obtenir de la triméthylhydroquinone en faisant réagir une 2,2,6-triméthylcyclohexane-1,4-dione dans des conditions d'oxydation en présence d'un agent sulfonant avec un acide fort en présence d'un agent acylant.
