A method and apparatus for use in formation testing instrument (13) for acquisition of a phase intact sample of connate fluid. One or more fluid sample tanks (26, 28) contained within the instrument (13) are pressure balanced with respect to the wellbore at formation level and are filled with a connate fluid sample in such manner that during filling of the sample tanks (26, 28) the pressure of the connate fluid is maintained within the predetermined range above the bubble point of the fluid sample. The sample tank (26, 28) incorporates an internal free-floating piston (46) which separates the sample tank into sample containing and pressure balancing chambers with the pressure balancing chamber being in communication with borehole pressure. The sample tank is provided with a cut-off valve (27, 29) enabling the pressure of the fluid sample to be maintained after the formation testing instrument (13) has been retrieved from the wellbore for transportation to a laboratory facility.
Méthode et dispositif destinés à un instrument (13) d'essai des couches permettant l'obtention d'un échantillon de fluide conné à phase intacte. Un ou plusieurs réservoirs (26, 28) à échantillon de fluide compris dans l'instrument (13) sont à pression équilibrée par rapport au forage au niveau du terrain final et sont remplis d'un échantillon de fluide conné de sorte que, lors du remplissage des réservoirs à échantillon (26, 28), la pression du fluide conné est maintenu en-deçà de l'étendue déterminée au-dessus du point de bulle de l'échantillon. Le réservoir à échantillon (26, 28) est muni d'un piston à flottement libre (46) qui divise le réservoir à échantillon en deux compartiments, l'un contenant l'échantillon, l'autre la pression équilibrée, ce dernier compartiment communiquant avec la pression du trou de forage. Le réservoir à échantillon est muni d'une soupape de fermeture (27, 29) permettant de conserver la pression de l'échantillon après que l'instrument d'essai des couches (13) a été retiré du forage pour être transporté à un laboratoire.
