A screw (10) and method for processing metal, metallic alloys, and metal matrix composites in a plastic injection molding machine (24) is disclosed. The screw (10) includes shank (12) with a screw shaft (14) extending therefrom. The screw shaft (14) includes a rear portion (20) proximate to the shank (12), a middle portion proximate (18) the rear portion (20), and a front portion (16) proximate the middle portion (18). Flights (22) extend from the rear portion (20) of the screw shaft (14) for advancing material (K) through the plastic injection molding machine (24) into the middle portion (18) of the screw shaft (14). Flights (22) may optionally be included in the front portion (16) of the screw (10).

L'invention concerne une vis (10) et un procédé de traitement de métal, d'alliages métalliques et de composites à matrice métallique dans une machine de moulage (24) par injection utilisée pour les plastiques. Ladite vis (10) comprend une queue (12) pourvue d'un arbre de vis (14) s'étendant à partir de cette dernière. L'arbre de vis (14) comprend une partie arrière (20) proche de la queue (12), une partie intermédiaire (18) proche de la partie arrière (20) et une partie avant (16) proche de la partie intermédiaire (18). Des filets (22) peuvent s'étendre depuis la partie arrière (20) de l'arbre de vis (14) pour faire avancer un matériau (K) à travers la machine de moulage (24) par injection dans la partie intermédiaire (18) de l'arbre de la vis (14).
