A modified method of in situ recovery of hydrocarbon from an underground hydrocarbon-containing formation. An "L" shaped production well, having a vertical upper section, and a lower horizontally-extending leg which is positioned low in the hydrocarbon formation, is provided. The horizontal leg connects to the vertical section of the production well at a heel portion and has a toe portion at an opposite end thereof. An oxidizing gas is injected into the formation proximate the vertical section of the production well. A vertical combustion front is created which is caused to sweep outwardly therefrom and laterally within the formation above the horizontal leg, from the heel to the toe of the horizontal leg, causing hydrocarbons in the formation above the horizontal leg to be upgraded and liquify, and thereafter to drain downwardly into the horizontal leg which is permeable, where such liquified hydrocarbons are then delivered to surface via production tubing. A non- oxidizing gas is injected into the heel portion of the horizontal leg via injection tubing contained within the vertical section of the production well. Benefits of the modified method of in situ recovery include decreased costs and lessened environmental impact.
Divulgation d'une méthode modifiée de récupération in situ d'hydrocarbures provenant d'une formation souterraine contenant des hydrocarbures. Divulgation d'un puits de production en « L », comportant une section supérieure verticale et une section inférieure horizontale située dans la bas de la formation contenant des hydrocarbures. La section horizontale est reliée à la section verticale du puits de production par une partie constituant le talon et elle a une extrémité située du côté opposé au talon. Un gaz oxydant est injecté dans la formation à proximité de la section verticale du puits de production. Un front de combustion vertical est créé et il est amené à se propager vers la périphérie et latéralement à partir de ce point, au-dessus de la section horizontale, du talon jusqu'à l'extrémité opposée de la section horizontale, provoquant la valorisation et la liquéfaction des hydrocarbures contenus dans la formation, suivies de leur drainage vers le bas et dans la section horizontale, perméable, ces hydrocarbures étant ensuite acheminés jusqu'à la surface par une colonne de production. Un gaz non oxydant est injecté dans la partie dite du talon de la section horizontale par une colonne d'injection placée dans la section verticale du puits de production. Une baisse des coûts et de moindres incidences environnementales comptent parmi les avantages de la méthode modifiée de récupération in situ d'hydrocarbures.
