This invention relates to nucleic acid sequences coding for aLunaria annua, Cardamine graeca or Teesdalia nudicaulis fatty acid elongase, yeast cells expressing the genes/enzymes, plants themselves and cells of such plants and seeds which contain a heterologous gene coding for a L. annua, C. graeca or T. nudicaulis fatty acid elongase gene, the plant or seed being capable of producing increased proportion of a very long chain monounsaturated fatty acid, especially nervonic acid and eicosenoic acid, beyond that of a control plant or seed lacking the heterologous FAE gene or genes.
La présente invention concerne des séquences d'acides nucléiques codant l'élongase d'acide gras de Lunaria annua, Cardamine graeca ou Teesdalia nudicaulis, des cellules de levure exprimant les gènes/enzymes, les plantes et les cellules de telles plantes ainsi que les graines contenant un gène hétérologue codant le gène de l'élongase d'acide gras de L. annua, C. graeca ou T. nudicaulis, la plante ou la graine susceptible de produire une proportion croissante d'un acide gras monoinsaturé à chaîne très longue, notamment un acide nervonique et un acide eicosanoïque, supérieure à celle d'une plante ou d'une graine témoin dépourvue du ou des gènes FAE hétérologues.
