Due to the exponential growth of home computers with modems, there is an increasing concern regarding the information available to children and teenagers using their computers to connect to various electronic billboards and Internet providers. Some of the information that can be accessed through this medium is of a pornographic, inappropriate nature. The media has also reported various cases of unsavory characters who, while pretending to be children, initiate correspondence with real children through e-mail and chat modes and then arrange to have an encounter with their "electronic pen-pals". When parents are not home it is impossible for them monitor the information their child is obtaining through this technology and the long distance bills that may be incurred. Our invention enables parents to lock out modem access when they desire. This is possible by plugging a mechanical locking device into the telephone jack of the modem. The invention uses a key to lock the device therefore it can only be removed from the modem with the key giving total control to the person with possession of the key.
