ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method is provided for incorporating a sulfur- capturing sorbent, such as calcium, into coal agglomerates, to reduce sulfur emission on combustion. In one variant of the method, the incorporation is carried out by preparing the agglomerates using an aqueous solution of a calcium salt. Other variants involve impregnating agglomerates with calcium salts either directly by soaking or via in situ precipitation of calcium salt in the agglomerates by reaction under pressure of carbon dioxide. The methods produce an agglomerate having the sulfur-capturing sorbent distributed throughout.
