The present invention relates to the application of 5-methyl-1,3-benzenediol or its derivatives represented by Formula I; wherein the constituent variables are as defined herein or pharmaceutical compositions thereof containing them in the preparation of medicines or functional foods. The present studies indicate that 5-methyl-1,3-benzenediol or its derivatives represented by Formula I, wherein the constituent variables are as defined herein or pharmaceutical compositions thereof containing them show more significant antidepressant effects than fluoxetine or imipramine. (see formula I)

L'invention concerne l'utilisation du 3,5-dihydroxytoluène ou de ses dérivés ou la composition les comprenant dans la préparation de médicaments et de nourriture fonctionnelle destinés au traitement ou à la prévention de la dépression. Les travaux de recherche ont révélé que le 3,5-dihydroxytoluène ou ses dérivés ont une activité antidépressive plus forte en comparaison avec la fluoxétine ou l'imipramine.
