2075379 9112876 PCTABS00007 Method and apparatus for purification of waste gases by adding reagent and/or absorbent, which reacts with the pollutants, to the gases and by introducing the gases into a wetting reactor (10) for activating the reagent or absorbent contained in the gases. Gases are conveyed to at least two levels through inlets (12, 14) in the wetting reactor so that a first portion of the gases is introduced into a wetting zone (30) and a second portion of the gases below the wetting zone. A high density if particles is maintained in the wetting zone by recycling particles separated from the gas to the wetting zone.
