A coating composition comprising a silylated polyvinyl alcohol and colloidal silica in an aqueous vehicle, where the solids content of the composition is not greater than 7.5% w/w, the silyl monomer content of the silylated polyvinyl alcohol is not greater than 3.0% (based on the monomers forming the silylated polyvinyl alcohol), the silylated polyvinyl alcohol comprises at least 50% w/w of the solids content of the composition, and the average particle size of the colloidal silica is from 5 to 80nm, may be coated on a substrate with a layer of an inorganic compound to form a gas barrier lamella.
L~invention concerne une composition de revêtement comprenant un alcool polyvinylique silylé et de la silice colloïdale dans un véhicule aqueux, la teneur en solide de la composition étant inférieure ou égale à 7,5 % p/p, la teneur en monomère silyle de l~alcool polyvinylique silylé étant inférieure ou égale à 3,0 % (par rapport aux monomères formant l~alcool polyvinylique silylé), l~alcool polyvinylique silylé comprenant au moins 50 % p/p de la teneur en solide de la composition et la taille moyenne de particules de la silice colloïdale étant comprise entre 5 et 80 nm, ladite composition pouvant être enduite sur un substrat avec une couche d~un composé inorganique afin de former une lamelle constituant une barrière contre les gaz.
