Optically transparent, relatively high refractive index polymeric compositions and ophthalmic devices such as intraocular lenses and corneal inlays made therefrom are described herein. The preferred polymeric compositions are produced through the polymerization of one or more copolymers with one or more hydrophilic monomers and optionally one or more aromatic-based monomers, hydrophobic monomers or a combination thereof.

Cette invention porte sur des compositions polymères à indice de réfraction relativement élevé et optiquement transparentes, ainsi que sur des dispositifs ophtalmiques tels que des lentilles intraoculaires et des incrustations cornéennes fabriqués à partir de ces compositions. Les compositions polymères préférées de cette invention sont obtenues par la polymérisation d'un ou plusieurs copolymères avec un ou plusieurs monomères hydrophiles et éventuellement un ou plusieurs monomères aromatiques, monomères hydrophobes ou une combinaison de ceux-ci.
