A modular telephone communications system is described for providing telephone communication capabilities through a plurality of different audio equipment devices (AED). The system includes a portable communication card which may interface with a number of different electronic devices such as computers, portable telephones, car, home or portable radio systems, portable compact disk or cassette players, televisions video cameras, and one-way or two-way messaging devices wherein each device has been adapted to communicate with the portable communications card.
