A manual transmission (10) for use in motor vehicles is disclosed. The transmission includes an input shaft (20), an output shaft (22) and a plurality of constant mesh gearsets (24, 26, 28, 30) and (32) that can be selectively engaged for establishing corresponding forward gears therebetween. A reverse gear assembly (14) is provided for establishing the reverse gear. The reverse gear assembly (14) includes a differential (80) having an input (82) driven by the input shaft (20), an output (84) meshed with an input gear (48) rotatably supported on the input shaft (20) and which is also meshed with a speed gear (50) fixed to the output shaft (22), and a carrier assembly (86) interconnecting the input and output members. A locking mechanism (88) is provided for selectively inhibiting rotation of the carrier assembly (86) so as to cause the output (84) to be driven in an opposite direction relative to the input (82) for providing a reverse gear.
L'invention concerne une transmission manuelle (10) destinée à être utilisée dans des véhicules automobiles. La transmission comprend un arbre d'entrée (20), un arbre de sortie (22) et plusieurs trains d'engrenage (24, 26, 28, 30, et 32) à engrènement constant pouvant entrer sélectivement en prise pour établir des vitesses de marche avant correspondantes entre elles. Un ensemble (14) marche arrière permet de passer la marche arrière. Un mécanisme (88) de verrouillage permet d'empêcher sélectivement la rotation de l'ensemble porteur (86) de manière à provoquer l'entraînement de l'élément de sortie (84) dans une direction opposée à celle de l'élément d'entrée (82) afin d'obtenir une marche arrière.
