P05933.S05 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process and apparatus for removing acid gas, such as carbon dioxide, from a gaseous composition. The gaseous composition is subjected to an absorption step, wherein it is contacted with a scrubbing solution incorporating a basic alkali metal compound, and a sterically hindered amine activator compound. Then, the solution is flashed to remove absorbed acid gas. Thereafter, the scrubbing solution is subjected to regeneration for additional removal of acid gas, and recycled to the absorption step.
