Ski boot shafts having an upper annular rigid collar, while providing a substantial weight reduction relative to flexible or semi flexible leg conforming lower shafted ski boots, have limitations associated with annular rigid collar fit and comfort, arising from dress related variables and continuous changes in the shape of the calf of the leg, during muscular activity. The leg securing device according to this invention provides leg retaining means that afford adjustment for dress related variables, accommodating changes in the shape of the calf of the leg during muscular activity without sacrificing the advantages associated with an annular rigid collar. The leg securing device comprises an elongated flexible strap element, adjustably secured to and positioned within the rigid collar. Various embodiments describing strap element adjustment means are disclosed.
