The invention provides novel erythromycin derivatives in which methyl groups on the macrolactone ring have been substituted with -H, -Et, and/or -OH and the ethyl side-chain has been substituted with hydroxymethyl or dihydroxyxyclohexylmethyl side-chains. The invention also provides reagents such as isolated polynucleotides, vectors comprising the polynucleotides and host cells transformed with the vectors for making the novel compounds. Methods for making the compounds utilizing genetic engineering techniques are also disclosed.

Nouveaux dérivés d'érythromycine dans lesquels les groupes méthyle du cycle de macrolactone ont été substitués par -H, -Et et/ou -OH et la chaîne latérale éthyle a été substituée par des chaînes latérales hydroxyméthyle ou dihydroxycyclohexylméthyle. L'invention porte en outre sur des réactifs, notamment des polynucléotides isolés, sur des vecteurs comprenant ces polynucléotides et sur des cellules hôtes transformées avec les vecteurs pour produire les nouveaux composés. L'invention se rapporte par ailleurs à des procédés pour produire ces composés par des techniques de génie génétique.
