ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An economical process is described for the oxidation of allylacetone to 2,5-hexanedione in a solvent system which is a mixture of water and carbon tetrachloride and employing palladium chloride as the oxidation catalyst. High yields of product are obtained with minimal losses of the expensive palladium catalyst.
