To prepare carboxyalkylthiosuccinic acids of the formula (I): Image wherein n = 1 to 3 and R = H or CH3, a mercapto-ester of the formula: HS-(CH2)n-COOR' wherein R' is an alkyl radical with C1 to C4, is reacted with maleic acid, citraconic acid or their anhydride in an aqueous medium without a catalyst. This process produces, directly and without a catalyst, compounds of the formula (I) and is aimed more specifically at the preparation of carboxyethylthiosuccinic acid (CETSA).

Pour préparer les acides carboxyalkylthiosucciniques de formule (I): Image dans laquelle n = 1 à 3 et R = H ou CH3, on fait réagir en milieu aqueux, sans catalyseur, un mercapto-ester de formule: HS-(CH2)n-COOR' dans laquelle R' est un radical alkyle en C1 à C4, avec l'acide maléique, l'acide citraconique ou leur anhydride. Ce procédé permet l'obtention directe et sans catalyseur des composés de formule (I) et il vise plus particulièrement la préparation de l'acide carboxyéthylthiosuccinique (CETSA).
