Methods are provided for making an antibacterial device in which antibacterial properties are provided by an iontophoretic material incorporated into the device. In one embodiment, a flowable iontophoretic material is extruded into a predetermined configuration. In another embodiment, a flowable iontophoretic material is applied onto a structure and the flowable iontophoretic material is caused to become non-flowable. In yet another embodiment, a first material having a first galvanic potential and a second material having a second galvanic potential are each incorporated into a flowable, conductive, base material to form a flowable iontophoretic material, and the flowable iontophoretic material is caused to become non-flowable to retain a predetermined shape. The disclosed methods are useful for providing implantable medical devices such as catheters with antibacterial properties.
