According to the present state of the art the bicycle is driven by turning of the pedals. According to this invention the bicycle is driven by pushing the pedals almost vertically down. This allows better utilization of the driver,s power. The invention consists of the axis (1) around which the cylinder (2) can revolve on roller bearings with minimum friction. Overrunning clutch (3), overrunning clutch (11) and the driving gear (43 are affixed to the cylinder (2). Overrunning clutches (3) and (11) are affixed to the cylinder (2) in such a manner that both make idle motion around the cylinder (2) in the same direction and turn the cylinder (2) in the same direction. The overrunning clutches are connected with pedals (7) and (10) by means of levers (9) and (6). Levers (9) and (6) are connected by means of a cord in such a manner that downward movement of one pedal results in upward movement of the other pedal. This mechanism is situated behind the rear wheel of the bicycle. The bicycle is driven by vertical downward push of the pedal which is in upper position
