The present invention further provides DNA molecules that encode novel PE variants, host cells comprising DNA encoding novel PE variants, as well as methods for making PEs less immunogenic. In addition, the present invention provides various compositions that comprise these PE variants that are less immunogenic than wild-type PEs.
