- 22 - Method and apparatus for determining the presence and identity of predetermined gases in the atmosphere such as would be found on a natural gas, natural gas liquid or oil pipeline if such pipeline was subject to leakage. An infrared transmitter and an infrared receiver are each mounted on a movable platform such as a fixed or rotary wing aircraft or on a vehicle. As the moving platform follows its predetermined assigned route, the presence of gases is determined by the infrared transmitter and receiver and at least one data acquisition module. The geographic position of the movable platform is determined so that the geographic location of the predetermined gases in the atmosphere is known.
Méthode et appareil permettant de détecter et d'identifier des gaz prédéterminés dans l'atmosthère, notamment des gaz que l'on pourrait trouver dans un pipeline servant au transport du gaz naturel, de liquides du gaz naturel ou de pétrole, advenant une fuite de ces produits en cas de bris du pipeline. Un émetteur-récepteur infra-rouge est monté sur une plate-forme mobile, notamment un avion à voilure fixe ou à voilure tournante ou sur un véhicule. Lorsque la plate-forme mobile suit son tracé prédéterminé, la présence de gaz est détectée par l'émetteur-récepteur infra-rouge et au moins un module d'acquisition de données. La position géographique de la plate-forme est déterminée de sorte que l'on peut également connaître à quel endroit des gaz prédéterminés sont libérés dans l'atmosphère.
