A gaming machine includes a coin dispenser with a coin hopper. The gaming machine is operable by the insertion of a coin. The gaming machine also includes a sensor that is connected to the coin hopper. Indicia is connected to the sensor and the indicia provides an indication corresponding to a predetermined level of coins in the coin hopper that is greater than zero. The predetermined level of coins allows the coins to electrically contact the sensor and coin dispenser, and the coins provide an electrical path between the sensor and the coin dispenser to complete an electrical circuit that includes the indicia.
