An apparatus for spacing joists and studs is described which includes an elongate spacer member having a top, a bottom, a first end, a second end, an interior face and an exterior face. A hook-like flange is secured adjacent to the top of the spacer member. The hook-like flange extends down adjacent to the interior face to create a joist receiving space. The spacer member is suspended by the hook-like flange from a joist positioned in the joist receiving space. The apparatus, as described, enables joists and studs to be installed without prior measuring.
