Abstract Abstract A peeler comprising a housing enclosing a motor and accommodating a battery for operating the motor. The motor is connected to a blade (27) for peeling which is arranged to be moved to and fro substantially linearly by the motor. The blade is connected to a drive arm (29) which is driven by an eccentric cam arrangement rotated by the motor (19). Guide means in the form of a shaped supporting arm (40) guides items to be peeled to the blade (27). In an alternative embodiment, the guide means comprises a roller (34) and a roller carrier (35). Optionally a spike or pointed projection (38) extends form one end of the housing to act a knife point as an adjunct to the peeling process. [Figure 1]
