4-benzoylisothiazoles have the general formula (1), in which the substituents have the following meanings: X stands for oxygen or sulphur; R1 stands for hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, alkinyl, optionally substituted alkoxycarbonyl, aryl, heterocyclyl or hetaryl; R2 stands for hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, alkinyl, cycloalkyl or cyclalkenyl, aryl, hetaryl or heterocyclyl; and R3 stands for a radical of general formulas (2a-d), in which n, A, B and the R4, R5 and R6 substituents have the meanings given in claim 1. Also disclosed are the salts commonly used in agriculture of the 4-benzoylisothiazoles of general formula (1), a process for preparing the same and their use as herbicides.
