A method and apparatus is provided to compensate for dispersion of a WDM optical signal. The method begins by directing a WDM optical signal having a prescribed bandwidth to a first dispersion compensating element and substantially compensating, with the first dispersion compensating element, each wavelength in the WDM optical signal for dispersion at a prescribed wavelength within a first sub-band of the prescribed bandwidth. The method continues by directing to a second dispersion compensating element wavelengths received from the first dispersion compensating element outside the first sub- band and substantially compensating, with the second dispersion compensating element, each wavelength received from the first dispersion compensating element for dispersion at a prescribed wavelength within a second sub-band of the prescribed bandwidth; The wavelengths received from the second dispersion compensating element are combined within the second sub-band of the prescribed bandwidth with the wavelengths received from the first dispersion compensating element within the first sub-band.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif permettant de compenser la dispersion d'un signal optique MRL. Ce procédé consiste à diriger un signal optique MRL ayant une bande passante prédéfinie vers un premier élément de compensation de dispersion et à sensiblement compenser, à l'aide dudit premier élément de compensation de dispersion, chaque longueur d'onde dans le signal optique MRL pour la dispersion à une longueur d'onde prédéfinie dans une première sous-bande de la bande passante prédéfinie. Ce procédé consiste ensuite à diriger vers un second élément de compensation de dispersion des longueurs d'onde fournies par le premier élément de compensation de dispersion en dehors de la première sous-bande et à sensiblement compenser, à l'aide du second élément de compensation de dispersion, chaque longueur d'onde fournie par le premier élément de compensation de dispersion pour la dispersion à une longueur d'onde prédéfinie dans une seconde sous-bande de la bande passante prédéfinie. Les longueurs d'onde fournies par le second élément de compensation de dispersion sont combinées dans la seconde sous-bande de la bande passante prédéfinie avec les longueurs d'onde fournies par le premier élément de compensation de dispersion dans la première sous-bande.
