A micro-mechanical system for medical procedures is constructed in the basic form of a catheter (103) having a distal end for insertion into and manipulation within a body and a near end providing for a user to control the manipulation of the distal end within the body. A fiber optics cable is disposed within the catheter and having a distal end proximate to the distal end of the catheter, and a near end for external coupling of laser light energy. A micro-gripper (70) is attached to the distal end of the catheter providing for the gripping or releasing of an object within the body. A laser light to mechanical power converter is connected to receive laser light from the distal end of the fiber optics cable, and connected to mechanically actuate the micro-gripper.

L'invention concerne un système micromécanique pour interventions médicales qui, de manière générale, se présente sous la forme d'un cathéter (103) possédant une extrémité distale destinée à être insérée et manipulée à l'intérieur du corps ainsi qu'une extrémité proximale permettant à l'utilisateur de manipuler ladite extrémité distale à l'intérieur du corps. Un câble à fibres optiques placé à l'intérieur du cathéter possède une extrémité distale disposée près de l'extrémité distale du cathéter et une extrémité proximale couplée à l'extérieur pour recevoir l'énergie lunineuse d'un laser. Une pince miniaturisée (70), attachée à l'extrémité distale du cathéter, permet de saisir ou de relâcher un objet à l'intérieur du corps. Un convertisseur de lumière laser en énergie mécanique est connecté de manière à recevoir la lunière laser provenant de l'extrémité distale du câble à fibres optiques et à actionner mécaniquement la pince miniaturisée.
