The invention includes a process and components for making stamping dies from a set of mass produced metal blocks, each machined to size, each with dowel and counter bored holes machined along an Upper and Lower Machining Line. Blocks are of same thickness and width. Each successive block of a set increases in length over the previous block length by either a fixed distance or a variable distance. Individual blocks can be mounted directly onto the die-set. Machining pattern of holes in each block is such that blocks are ready to be located into position using existing dowel holes and secured onto die-set using existing counter bored holes. All blocks are ready for final custom machining. A set of blocks is designed to accommodate strip widths within a given range. The result is a reduction in die-making time and cost.
