36449 Abstract Pyrotechnic Composition In the field of blasting, means for transmitting an initiating signal (non-electrically) to an explosive device to remotely detonate same in accordance with a predetermined delay period comprises mixed particles of a fuel and barium peroxide or lead dioxide as oxidant wherein the said oxidant particles have been treated with a surface active material that attaches to surface regions of the barium peroxide or lead dioxide particles to provide a surface array of hydrocarbyl chains which acts as a barrier to impede ingress of water vapour and or carbon dioxide, whereby tubing in which there is provided a dusting of such a pyrotechnic composition that is capable of propagating an initiation signal from one end of said tubing to the other may be utilised to provide a delay unit wherein the tubing is connected at one end thereof, at least, to an instantaneous cap or delay detonator in a manner known per se.
