Methods are provided for increasing plant growth rate, biomass and tolerance to stress by genetically engineering plants to contain and express a gene of the ascorbic acid synthesis-cell wall synthesis network (e.g. GlcUA reductase, GLOase or MIOX). Transgenic plants that are genetically engineered in such a manner are also provided.

L'invention concerne des procédés permettant d'accroître le taux de croissance, la biomasse et la tolérance au stress de plantes par production de plantes par génie génétique destinées à contenir et à exprimer un gène du réseau de synthèse de la paroi cellulaire de l'acide ascorbique (par exemple, GlcUA réductase,GLOase ou MIOX). L'invention concerne également des plantes transgéniques qui sont produites par génie génétique selon lesdits procédés.
