Disclosed is a method of polymerizing vinyl chloride monomer using a catalyst having the general formula (See Fig. I) where L is a ligand covalently bonded to the cobalt atom, each D is independently selected from donor ligands, R is hydrogen, hydrocarbon from C1 to C30, or hydrohalocarbon from C1 to C30, and X- is an anion. The catalyst is activated by the addition of an acid.

L'invention porte sur une méthode de polymérisation d'un monomère de chlorure de vinyle à l'aide d'un catalyseur de formule générale (voir Fig. I), où L est un ligand lié par covalence à l'atome de cobalt, chaque D est choisi indépendamment parmi des ligands donneurs, R est un hydrogène, un groupe hydrocarboné C1 à C30 ou un groupe hydrohalocarboné C1 à C30, et X- est un anion.
