An apparatus and method of welding-two pipe sections together by use of an electrode and moving the electrode toward a gap between the pipe sections as the electrode is moved about the outer peripheral surface of the pipe sections during the welding operation. During the welding process, welding parameters are recorded and correlated with a determined position. The position of the formed weld bead is determined by GPS satellites.
