An air conveyor (10) for conveying a plurality of articles (15) such as cans in an upright orientation between process stations includes an elongate deck (12) having a plurality of openings (14, 16) for directing air, sides (50), and a top cover assembly (30). The top cover assembly (30) includes at least one perforated panel (40) vertically spaced above the deck (12). A plurality of cover panels (42) overlie the perforated panel (40). Retaining structures (36) maintain the cover panels (42) substantially in place laterally while permitting movement thereof toward and away from the perforated panel (40) for regulating air flow through portions of the perforated panel (40) in response to variations in air pressure in the chamber (53).
