The properties of fibrous raw material can be modified already in the growing plant through the functional inclusion of a novel homeobox gene. More specifically, the present invention concerns the expression of homeobox genes in the cambial region of fibrous plants. In particular the present invention concerns the expression of homeobox genes in the xylem maturation zone during secondary phases of vascular development in fibrous plants. A novel class of homeobox genes is disclosed, together with the nucleotide squence and deduced amino acid sequence for five genes from three different plant species, belonging to said sequence class.
Les propriétés de matières premières fibreuses peuvent être modifiées déjà dans la plante en croissance par l'introduction fonctionnelle d'un nouveau gène à séquence homéotique. Plus spécifiquement, la présente invention concerne l'expression de gènes à séquence homéotique dans la couche génératrice de plantes à fibres. L'invention concerne en particulier l'expression de gènes à séquence homéotique dans la zone de maturation du xylème pendant les phases secondaires du développement vasculaire chez les plantes à fibres. On décrit une nouvelle classe de gènes à séquence homéotique, ainsi que la séquence nucléotidique et la séquence aminoacide résulltante, pour cinq gènes issus de trois différentes espèces de plante, qui appartiennent à ladite classe de séquence.
