This invention relates to 1-aryl-3-pyridinyl-2- propene-l-ones of the formula: (see formula I) wherein Ar is a radical of the formula: (see formula II) wherein: R1, R2 and R3 are each independently hydrogen; halogen; C1-C6 alkyl; C1-C6 alkoxy; C1-C6 alkylsulfide; benzyloxy; or -N(Y1)(Y2), wherein Y1 and Y2 are each independently hydrogen or C1-C6 alkyl; or X z-(Ar1- (CH2)n-O-, wherein Ar is phenyl or naphthyl, n=0 or 1, X= C1-C6 alkoxy or -N(Y1)(Y2), wherein Y1 and Y2 are as previously defined and Z=O, 1 or 2; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof arid the use of these compounds as calcium uptake inhibitors in leukocytes and thrombocytes, and pharmaceutical compositions containing these compounds as active ingredients, and the process of their preparation.
