Endothelial cells which express a protein having I?B activity such that NF?B activation of the cells is substantially blocked may be prepared by altering the genetic material of the cells so that I?B activity is expressed continuously, immediately following endothelial cell activiting stimuli or on demand in response to a predetermined external stimulus e.g. by introducing he- terologous I?B coding sequences or promoters into the cells. Organs and tissue comprising such endothelial cells are useful in transplantation e.g. xenotransplantation, as they are advantageously less susceptible to rejection.
