This disclosure provides a system for producing pancreatic islet cells from embryonic stem cells. Differentiation is initiated towards endoderm cells, and focused using reagents that promote emergence of islet precursors and mature insulin-secreting cells. High quality populations of islet cells can be produced in commercial quantities for use in research, drug screening, or regenerative medicine.

L'invention concerne un système permettant de produire des cellules d'îlots pancréatiques à partir de cellules souches embryonnaires. Une différentiation est initiée vers des cellules endodermes, et concentrée en faisant appel à des réactifs favorisant l'émergence de précurseurs d'îlots pancréatiques et de cellules mûres de sécrétion d'insuline. Des populations de haute qualité de cellules d'îlots peuvent être produites en quantités commerciales pour une utilisation dans le domaine de la recherche, du criblage de médicament, ou de la médecine régénérative.
