A sail system for a sailboat is provided. The sails have a narrow flat forward portion which is oriented at a dihedral angle to a flat aft portion. The dihedral angle is maintained by pushing or pulling the sail to leeward along a line generally parallel to the luff of the sail. The invention may be used with a sail having two forward portions which attach to parallel tracks in a twin-track mast to smooth entry of wind into the sail.
