Optically active isomers of tricyclic compounds, typically cyclopenta[b]benzofuran derivatives represented by general formula (II) wherein R1, R2, Y and Z each represents hydrogen, halogeno, alkyl, or aryl; W represents oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, or carbon; and n is 0 to 4, and directly produced by adding an optionally active alcohol, amine, or/and metal salt thereof. This process is highly useful because it needs neither a complicated operation for optical resolution nor an enzymatic reaction requiring a large amount of a solvent and a long reaction time and less apt to attain reproducibility, and because it is applicable to both experimental and industrial processes.

L'invention a trait à des isomères de composés tricycliques à activité optique, en l'occurrence des dérivés de cyclopenta[b]benzofuran, représentés par la formule générale (II) dans laquelle R¿1?, R¿2?, Y et Z représentent, chacun, un hydrogène, un halogéno, un alkyle ou un aryle, W représentant un oxygène un soufre, un azote ou un carbone tandis que la valeur de n est comprise entre 0 et 4. Ces isomères sont produits directement par adjonction d'un alcool éventuellement actif, d'un amine et ou d'un sel métallique de celui-ci. Ce procédé se révèle des plus utile dans la mesure où, d'une part, il n'exige pas d'opération compliquée s'agissant de la résolution optique ni de réaction enzymatique réclamant de grandes quantités de solvant et un temps de réaction prolongé tout en étant moins apte à atteindre une certaine reproductibilité et, d'autre part, il peut être utilisé tant à l'échelle expérimentale qu'industrielle.
