In this invention a method is described for launching a steel catenary riser (SCR) from the seabed to the surface. Basically the method comprises three stages. During the first stage, joints are continually welded to the metal pipe resting on the seabed to form the length of the steel catenary riser (SCR) in contact with the seabed. In the second stage a length of pipe previously wound onto a receiving device is welded to the free end of the last joint welded and then it is unwound and launched to form the intermediate length of the steel catenary riser (SCR). In the third stage joints are again welded to the intermediate length of the steel catenary riser (SCR) to form the top length of the said steel catenary riser (SCR).

L'invention concerne un procédé de lancement d'une colonne montante à caténaire en acier (SCR) du fond de la mer à la surface. Ce procédé comprend trois étapes essentielles. La première étape consiste à souder de façon continue des joints au tuyau métallique reposant au fond de la mer pour former la longueur de la colonne montante à caténaire (SCR) en contact avec le fond de la mer. La deuxième étape consiste à souder à l'extrémité libre du dernier joint soudé une longueur de tuyau préalablement enroulée sur un dispositif de support, qui est ensuite déroulée et lancée pour former la longueur intermédiaire de la colonne montante à caténaire en acier (SCR).
